Extremely Rare One-of-Kind Eaten Juvenile Homotherium Upper Skull with One SaberSpecies: HOMOTHERIUM Crenatidens Species description: This cat evolved from Machairodus and appeared at Miocene - Pliocene border about 5 MYA and lived in Africa as well as Euroasia and dies out lastly in Asia and North America about 10,000 years ago so it was highly successful. It was a scimitar cat built like a modern lion that had about a 13"-14" skull but much longer teeth called sabers. It was larger than average saber-tooth cat that was very successful yet hardly ever found in fossil records. Complete skeletons have only been found in Texas and of this animal complete skeletons in Asia have never been found and only a few skulls. The sabers per head size are smaller than other the big cats. It preyed on wooly mammoths as found out in Texas. It looks like a meg however much shorter sabers and less sized lower saber guard and sabers reached to end of lower jaw as this one does. It reached 1.1 meters at shoulder. As said compared to megantereon, smilodon, and machairodotus its sabers were relatively short but still they are nice sized sabers. It provided a great puncturing and gripping force . The skull was longer than smilodon. This jaw had down-turned forward flanges to protect the scimitars . It large canine teeth were crenulated and designed for slashing rather than purely stabbing. Some of the physical appearances were unusual for a big cat as it had limbs that gave the homotherium a hyena like appearance. The forelegs were elongated while hind legs were rather squat with feet planti-grade causing back to slope down towards a short tail. It had a large nasal square nasal opening like a cheetah which allowed quicker oxygen intake with brain visual cortex large and allowed it to hunt during the day instead of night like many cats. It lived 5 million years longer than megantereon. It hunted in packs and not only killed mammoths but also rhinoceros juveniles. Formation: Longdan Formation Geographical Area: Miocene-Pliocene border to middle of Pleistocene in America and Asia. This one is Early Pleistocene Location: Gansu Providence, Northern Central China-Dongxiang Item description & rating: 15+++ X Ultra RARE Beautiful A Upper Young Homotherium Scimitar Saber-Tooth Cat Skull 9" long x 4" wide with almost 3" saber showing. First this is the only known juvenile China homotherium known in America. No museum and no person owns a juvenile partial homotherium. This is truly one-of-a kind. Serrations and enamel are simply stunning on the one saber. While not complete it is 98 % original bone with 2% restore not completed as shown by small gray areas, It is missing 2-3 inches in back of skull only and that was due to predation not time and erosion. In other words this little guy (estimated 6-8 months old) was killed by a large canid (wolf or hyaena based on conical depressions or bite marks as shown with small grooves all over the surface of the skull where incisors of the cub killer were scraping all over the surface of the skull to scrape meat off the skull. The right saber is excellent with a mm of repair at end of tip and it was exposed more to show how the saber goes back into the skull at top - one more inch probably exists. On the other saber only a small piece sticks out exposed. I do have a large homotherium saber also. Most of upper teeth are there including a saber and 4 incisors - one has to be placed in front , and the premolars and molars which are very different . Adults got 14" long on skulls so very large. Anyone complaining on completeness it is like someone complaining about a brush mark on the Mona Lisa. How do I know this is homotherium for sure. It is the only cat with longitudinal enamel crenulations (subtle ridges), Machs and all other cats have latitudinal ridges forming subtle expanding rings as you go down the length. Homos are like crocodiles and Spinosaurus. I wanted to show each of you about this rare beauty. Homotheriums are over 100 times rarer than the big Machs. They looked like a lion in many ways but larger. Anyway, what a FIND! I'm in heaven on this one. |

Rare Complete Hoplophoneus Saber-Cat Skeleton w/o HeadSpecies: Hoplophoneus saber-tooth cat skeleton not including skull. Species description: Hoplophoneus was heavier and larger than Dinictis with longer sabers and was a true saber-tooth cat with saber-guards or flanges on it's mandible to protect it's fangs. These animals ambushed their prey, rather than running it down. We know they had a close family relationship due to multiple animals – family members in close proximity. These were successful animals, however, complete skulls almost never occur in fossil records of 30 MYA. Geological strata: White River Formation 30+ MYA Geologic period: Oligocene 30-23 MYA Item location: Badlands of Converse County, Douglas, Wyoming Item description & rating 12+ This unbelievably is a rare complete skeleton of Hoplophoneus about 4 ft long including tail and without head, which is an accurate representation of this animal. The neck vertebrae, dorsal vertebrae and caudal vertebrae including processes are complete and glued on an oak stained board for display. Feet and legs are complete with all bones including support bones on upper feet which are rare. Many bones were glued back together. Its teeth are different than any other animal by far and I will never get another. The government has closed digging in Lougdan so no skulls will come again except for this whole skull. The teeth are unbelievably good. The back of skull is complete and showing and it was professionally prepped by me. IT took a lot of work and it was worth it. IT has bone quality and color that is unsurpassed by any animal I ever got from the area. This is the first good one ever found in last 10 years and fossil are so extreme this is for only an avid discerning collector who wants something neither museums or individuals have. This is even rarer than dire wolf and the last dire wolf skull in America sold for $23,000 at auction recently.
