What a specimen at 20" long by 10" wide and 12" agape. This is the most sought after mammal now after all the BBC Prehistoric Beast immortalized publication tape, which comes with this beautiful creature. This is a female as these creatures showed sexual dimorphism and cheeks of females and young adults were smaller in size. This was the most feared creature of the Oligocene Period with hyaenodons. The quality details of this specimen is a mile long with all original teeth except 3 upper small incisors so canines and all molars and premolars are to this pig. The bottom jaw is 100% original , 90% of upper original with only back of zygomatic arches for stability (cheek flaps totally original), and the very back of skull having partial restoration. The beautiful color of skull - off white-cream with black spots and original brown teeth that were coated for shine and protection is simply amazing. When have you ever saw one mounted free with jaws agape. Most all are in matrix due to strong possibility of breakage in prepping. Due to smaller cheeks since a female and young adult made this specimen capable of agape mounting . This is my first female I've seen so cheeks looked different but was told by a top authority and checking literature they did show sexual dimorphism on these. Not only all of this but many of the adult teeth have just erupted so they are perfect and required no repair as most specimens require. The smaller canines of the juvenile-sub-adult are being pushed out by larger canines in back, and a number of them are just breaking thru the gumline. The morphology is simply amazing for this animal. I saw one this quality in Denver last year and it sold no questions asked for $16,000 and it was smaller as a juvenile 18". These animals made mince meat of the saber cats of the time. I will not get another like this so why wait and grab a ultra rare female specimen with such a story to tell on a super firm display I don't expect this to be on long. One-Of-Kind Unknown species for over 100 years Daphoenus hartshornianus 33 MYA Dog Perfect Skull Found in George Lee CollectionSpecies: Daphoneus hartshornianus or Protemnocyn dog (Only one known for private collection) Species description: This is one of early dogs, and this species was a carnivore on the Oligocene Plains which ate most anything it wanted including squirrels, small deer, rabbits and sickly larger animals. I used to think perfection in nature on prehistoric beasts was impossible but this proved me wrong. I can't find restoration for sure on this animal even though a thin layer on saggital crest is possible even extremely well done if so. Just to think 34 million years and this animal can look this good. I'm extremely lucky to have this creature as no one can find this in any collection except a museum. What is amazing this animal is perfect yet few skulls of this species of dog exist anywhere. IT fooled me until a top multidecade hunter mentioned it was a form of dog and after research determined it was this rare species. It is not a daphoenus felinus which I also have and characteristics make this 95 % conclusive. The teeth of both hyaenodon and this animal are almost the same except the molars which also make this a dog. Remember hyaenodons had dog characteristics also. Ultra RARE Metailurus Major Saber-Tooth Cat 10" Skull with 2" SabersSpecies: Metailurus major saber-tooth cat Species description: Sabercat larger than metailurus minor from genus machairodontine saber-tooth cats that belong to tribe metalurini that lived in Asia and Europe 15-8 MYA. Known as false saber-cat because it had a cross between long flat saber-teeth and shorter cone-shaped teeth of modern felines and many believed it evolved to modern day cheetah. It lived earlier than metailurus minir and whilke minor lived 9-6 MYA so it lived longer but much rarer to find. I've only seen 2 of these, while minor are the most common saber-tooth cat. It was closely related tyo dinofelis. Its canines were slightly larger than dinofelis and was very stocky in build. Both cats had forearms more heavily built than the hind limbs. Geological strata: Hipparion Formation Geological period: 15-8 MYA Item location: Ganshu Providence, China Item rating and description: 12 +++++ Fabulous Very Rare Metailurus Major Saber-cat From China Over 10" long 5.5" wide with all original Teeth including 2 beautiful sabers (original) 2" long with incisors and molars. The teeth are really exceptional. The skull is at least 98% original with canines repaired and crack filled and one inch of back upper tip of lower jaw missing but not restored. The saber-cat is whole and a beautiful piece in all regards. The color has dark spots and light beige makes this an exceptional cat and zygos are all real. Sources say these cats are impossible to find now but minors are still more common and other saber cats but rare overall as only a few % of fossils found are carnivores. All the back skull parts including condyles are present while distorted slightly, and I prepped it myself exposing all skull areas in its entirety except for between the zygos where it is too fragile to expose and teeth show up well. However on skulls like this it displays best this way. Since these are so rare and first one Ive had if someone doesn't see the value of this specimen I will keep it as far as my collection which I want to get all the sabercats in the world within a few years. This is a large major saber-cat, and only one other is on the internet for sale and that is only 25% at most original and much smaller. Total bottoms on that one are restored and they want almost $4,000 for it so how about a 4 times better skull from a saber cat that is affordable.
