Premium Hyaenodon Horridus11.5” Skull Agape Open Mouth SkullSpecial Premium Hyaenodon horridus 11.5” Skull Agape Open Mouth Skull Species: Hyaenodon horridus Species description: This was the largest species of Hyaenodon in North America with massive high saggital crest in back of head, long narrow snout, short neck and long body and tail. It was the top single carnivore although a number of Terrible Pigs could drive one off. This was the largest carnivore for over 20 Million years called a Creodont and it hunted alone not in packs like its smaller 3 related species . These creodonts shared a specialized dentition commonly found in meat eating mammals with shearing structures called carnassal-teeth. This one species was the size of a bear and had 1000 lbs of pressure per bite , and was more dangerous and a lot bigger than any saber-tooth cat of its time a loner).Male specimens show grinding marks on their teeth which means tooth-grinding was used as intimidation with animals. The last creodont went extinct in America about 23 MYA but lasted to the Miocene in Asia. This is the rarest fossil of the 4 species of Creodont by far. Legs of Dire Wolf was shorter and sturdier than those of gray wolf and the brain case was smaller to than the gray wolf .This was the largest wolf ever and ate anything it wanted as it traveled in packs also to obtain food. Geological period: Pleistocene $30,000 years old this one 1 Million-10,000 species survived Item location: LEVY COUNTY , FLORIDA Item rating and description: (1-10) **10** SPECTACULAR DIRE WOLF 12.5” COMPLETE SKULL Over 96 % Original With Lowers just found recently close to where Upper was found over a year ago . I waited on this hoping the lowers would be found and it came true. Now presenting one of only a few in existence for top Perfectionist collectors only “the DIRE WOLF”-One of the most sought after fossils in the world and complete. This skull is really fantastic as the Upper is at least 95% original and one side of lower is entirely original with only a few repairs anywhere .The back of the upper is all there as you can tell by the lines and color of a little lighter brownish tint . The back of one lower is the only item that is restored except for a few spots on upper and one spot of front of one lower . I would describe this as an outstanding specimen , and with this species even 70% is very good as this is one of top specimens ever found . Only one in Florida exits, and it’s in a museum but not this quality. I debated to sell this one or not , but I do have two LaBrea wolves and will keep one for myself . This gives you a great opportunity AS you know only Florida, Alaska , and California LaBrea have these animals, and the University of Florida has only one exhibited . No other species of wolf over 11 inches long ever existed so for you doubters, it’s true . This specimen has the most spectacular teeth you will ever see that are an extremely high % of original teeth . The entire upper are all original teeth including all incisors and the one canine shows it broke off just a small amount in life so it tells a great story . This is an old male wolf with many fights under its belt . It is a spectacular color of dark brown, black and even a tincture of light spotted teeth like the incisors The lower has all real teeth except 5 incisors in the middle. It was found 10 months later close to the upper at same area and it matches as you can tell on size and color . Its mounted on a beautiful display well and I doubt if even 4 exist in the world today of Dire wolves from Florida . This is so special I will not discount as I’d gladly keep it . It does just stir me to see this creature just as much as my bear dog from Florida and Short-face Bear in my personal collection . Even the zygos are original which unheard of in any extinct mammal. The wolf id fully inflated at 6” across also .It was expertly prepped .Remember there is always a color difference in some areas due to matrix it was found . Even the teeth aren’t completely black but most all are. Anyway for you who can’t appreciate this you never will but for the few who really know this animal this is an amazing find . What is amazing this pig was early so it’s rare and smaller than later ones but it’s a old adult with some wear on teeth .This is the famous pig(entelodont) so highly publized in BBC Walking with Prehistoric Beasts. This is simply amazing quality with hardly any restore. One premolar on top and one on bottom with one incisor on teeth restored and a few spot fills is about it. A little on back of one lower and a little in back with ears perfect. The quality is the best I have ever seen(except on Lee piece years ago) and is virtually uncomparable to any . IT is a complete skull .This is for only top collectors who want an item you can’t get anywhere on quality. Quality means I paid a lot for this, so if you wish quality you have to pay . I’ve seen some not near as good go for $16,000 The canines are 2.25 inches long and all canines teeth original. This specimen may the best in the world so stop your drooling. This is one of my top five treasures. The early ones are hardly ever found. Size is not important on this because it’s early carnivore as it’s still at top of food chain, but quality is amazing. Just look at this bone. Also the display is simply amazing as it turns around to see all sides, which is an added huge advantage to display this prehistoric carnivore (Yes pigs were carnivores). Species: Beautiful Hoplophoneus Saber- Cat Skull oreodontis-First hoplo saber cat ever (2nd ever to Dinctis )
Species description: The long –legged Nimravid saber-tooth cat (one of largerone)with razor –sharp sabers and the second earliest saber-tooth cat that roamed North America beginning in the Oligocene Period 35 MYA -23 MYA . These animals had a lot of physical characteristics similar and exact to Smilodon including famous saber-guards and similar sabers while smaller . They stood at over 2 ft tall the size of a large bobcat, and were more of a group predator with a close knit families as evidenced by some hoplos found together in death while overall very rare species hunting an abundant food supply of grazing ungulates including camels and oreodonts. Using their highly developed saber-teeth they would likely sever the blood supply in the neck of their prey in the initial attack.
Geological strata: LOWER BRULE Timeframe : 40-34MYA Item location: Shannon County , SD Item rating and description:1-10 10 on Rarity This is the 2nd sabertooth cat ever in the entire world as its a very early Hoplophoneous sabertooth. Sabertooths originalted here in USA and this was second only to Dinictis . Gorgeous 7 ½ ” Rarer Hoplophoneus- Early Cat Skull in Excellent Shape . Some people say this was combined into priveavus species but as a White River expert with others ts divided to another species it’s an amazing find This is actually not primaveus, and is a really rare oreodontis species that has top quality at approx 80% . The teeth are great on premolars but incisors and sabers are casts This is such a rare species I’ve only had one in 20 years before this. For a true collector this is a must skull . It was the early hoplo -the first ever in fact .This is an old cat and primeavus would be bigger . It was found in very early rock which lower Brule is. Repair on cheeks , backs of both lowers and a few small spots own upper but top quality for such a rare skull . Even with sabers these never come around. All parts are one saber cat. My last one sold for a lot over 14,000 and this is better . Cat of USA are so hard to find anymore. Its almost impossible . If you read some articles many scientists have combined this into primeavus but the institute says this is definitely a different very rare species as they have only had a few of these in over 40 years , and its guaranteed a new rare species oreodontis so its –just too valuable .This wont be around again .This would go for $18.000 -20,000 if not for sabers so its a great chance to get a great skull fore the money |
